Who We Are

The Order of Friars Minor Conventual is a mendicant Order founded by St. Francis of Assisi under the name Friars Minor. From the earliest times the word Conventual was added to this name.

As a religious community composed of priests and brothers, we commit ourselves to live the Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ according to the ideals and inspiration of St. Francis.

• by giving witness to fraternal life
• fostering communion and renewal in the local Church and families especially the poor and marginalized
• advocating justice, peace, solidarity with and care of creation

Complementary to our Christ-centered Spirituality is our rich Marian heritage. We consecrate ourselves to Mary, the perfect model of Christian discipleship, as an expression of our filial love and total entrustment to her.

Men of God

We follow Christ by living the gospel, a total commitment to Him in faith and love in the light of the personal experience of St. Francis of Assisi. We opted to be “minors”, which gives importance to the following of the poor and humble Christ. Thus, we commit to answer the needs of the local Church especially the poor. The spirit of prayer and contemplation are essential part of our life so we can maintain a sincere love relationship with God.

Complementary to our Christ-centered spirituality is our rich Marian heritage. We consecrate ourselves to Mary as an expression of our filial love and entrustment to Her. Mary is the perfect model of discipleship, especially as the voice of the poor and lowly and as one who received the word of God in her heart and put it into practice.

Men of Fraternal Life

We call ourselves as Conventual Franciscans. Conventual which comes from the root word “convenire” means we live together as a community in the spirit of love and fraternity. The fraternal communion based on living the gospel is the timely response to our world beset by conflicts and fragmentation. From fraternity spring forth our “conventuality” which is to bring the presence of our community of friars in the world by serving the needs of the people.

Men for Mission

Life itself is a mission. Our vocation is a response to serve the Church. The Church is the universal sacrament of salvation for the world. We consider the concerns of the Church as our own and commit ourselves to love and serve the people of God just as Christ love and serve them. Throughout the many centuries, the Conventual Franciscans have been serving the people especially those living in the urban areas and dedicating themselves to different apostolic activities of the local Church: pastoral, liturgical, cultural, charitable, and social.

We are actively involved in the propagation of the Militia of the Immaculate movement and spiritually. We provide spiritual assistance to the Secular Franciscan Order, to some private of public institutions by giving retreats and recollections. We establish a retreat house, a free medical assistance to the poor, and parish ministry. We also participate in the work for justice, peace and safeguarding of creation.
