What is the Militia of the Immaculata? The Militia of the Immaculata (M.I.) is a worldwide evangelization movement founded by St. Maximilian Mary Kolbe in 1917 that encourages a total consecration to the Blessed Virgin Mary as a means of spiritual renewal for individuals and society. Marian consecration in the M.I. is a formal act of self-giving that does not stop at Mary, but is Christ directed. It is really consecration to Jesus. The M.I. motto is "To lead every individual with Mary to the most Sacred Heart of Jesus." The M.I. movement is open to all Catholics. It employs prayers as the main weapon in the spiritual battle with evil. M.I.s also immerse themselves in apostolic initiatives throughout society either individually of in groups, to deepen the knowledge of the Gospel and our Catholic Faith in themselves and in others.
Have confidence. Not everyone who joins the Militia understand perfectly the excellence of this consecration, but Mama Mary will gradually provide enlightenment and lead us to fruitful growth in holiness. The Purpose of the Militia
- To pray and do penance for the conversion of sinners.
- To grow in holiness by totally consecrating oneself to Mary Immaculate.
- To bring others to Jesus through Mary.
Conditions for Membership - Complete consecration of giving of oneself to the Immaculate, thus freely making oneself a docile and generous instrument in her hands.
- To wear the Miraculous medal. To register by name as member of the Militia in a canonically erected center of the same.
Means of Apostolate - To pray, do penance, offer one's daily trials and sufferings to God; if possible to address daily this aspiration to the Immaculate: "O Mary conceived without sin, pray for us who have recourse to you, and for all who have recourse to you, especially for the enemies of the Holy Church and those recommended to you."
- To use every legitimate means, according to the possibilities of one's state and circumstances of life and the opportunities available, for the conversion and sanctification of men, a use to be inspired and guided by the zeal and prudence each member. Means especially recommended are the distribution of the Miraculous Medal and the apostolate of good example.
How do you join? Firstly, pray about it... Then, if you wish to place yourself at Our Lady's disposal and enroll as a member of the Militia of the Immaculata movement, start to prepare yourself for your day of enrollment/consecration. Preparation for Enrollment - Select the day for your enrollment.
- Prepare yourself for the day of enrollment by Daily Mass, if possible, the Rosary, short meditation, and spiritual reading.
- Ask our Lord to give you the Plenary Indulgence the Church grants on the day of enrollment. To gain the indulgence you must totally consecrate yourself to the Immaculate Virgin Mary and promise to observe the rules of the Militia, and fulfill the usual conditions: sacramental confession, Eucharistic communion, prayer for the intention of the Holy Father (which is fully satisfied by reciting one Our Father and one Hail Mary), and being detached from sin.
- On the day of your enrollment, recite the official Solemn Act of Consecration written by St. Maximilian, before an altar or image of our Lady (in Church if possible). This will be a very important act in your life. Therefore, pray fervently to the Immaculate for enlightenment and ask St. Maximilian to intercede for you.
